There are over 1,300 ingredients that are banned in the European Union. Do you have an idea how many are banned here in America? So that you don't loose your mind guessing, I will help you; only 11 ingredients are banned.

The difference is incredible! In the United States, no ingredient is found “guilty” until proven otherwise. While in other countries, the ingredient is always found "guilty" until proven otherwise.

This caused in me a lot of interest to know and investigate what ingredients I decide to use on my body. It is not a change that will happen overnight; baby steps is always recommended. I have been in this for four years and patiently found in clean products the effect I was looking for. There's no hurry! nobody is waiting for you and it is not a race. It is your health and well being and this takes time and dedication.

For your luck, you have me :). I leave you here something easy things to do when buying products. First of all, if you're having trouble pronouncing it, it's probably something to question.

I am giving you a list of ingredients that immediately raise the red flag on a product. Once you become familiar with this, you do it naturally without much thought. Little by little you start to know brands to trust and brands not to trust, and everything becomes easier.

  • 1,4 Dioxane: Found in products that create foam. Normally you will not find this name in the ingredients list. Instead, look for SLS (sodium laureth sulfate), PEG compounds, and chemicals that include the xynol, ceteareth, and oleth clauses.

  • Benzophenone - Found in lipstick, nail polish, sun cream, fragrance, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, moisturizer, and foundation. Look for words that contain Benzophenone in it, for example Benzophenone-2.

  • BHA: it is an antioxidant preservative that is available in food, cosmetics or food packaging. Search for the words BHA or BHT

  • MEA, DEA, TEA - Found on almost every product, look for these words MEA, DEA or TEA

  • Homosalate: it is obtained in sunscreens. Look up the words Homosalate, Homomenthyl salicylate, HMS, HS; 3,3,5-trimethyl-cyclohexyl-salicylate.

  • Formaldehyde: Available on almost all personal care products including children. Look up the words formaldehyde, quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, polyoxymethylene urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bromopol) and glyoxal.

  • Lead, Aluminum, Mercury: (heavy metals) are found in almost all personal care and beauty products. Look up the words lead acetate, chromium, thimerosal, hydrogenated cotton seed oil, sodium hexametaphosphate.

  • Fragrance: you will find it in ALL the products. Search for the words Fragrance, perfume, parfum, essential oil blend, aroma

  • Parabens: on all products, search for words ending in - paraben

Unfortunately, these are just some of the thousands and thousands of ingredients that the product you are using may have. Normally the products that I do not like, will have in them some or many of the ones I mentioned. Click here if you want to have an extended list of ingredients with their classifications, where you can find them, and why you should avoid them in case you want to read more about the subject. I hope I gave you a good resource. For any questions you know where to write me. Thanks for reading me, With love always, Sandy
